Energetic Physiology
We are used to thinking of physiology in terms of chemistry and molecular biology, or in relation to organs and muscle groups. Great advances have been made in understanding this layer of human physiology in the past hundred and fifty years.
It turns out that there are other systems in the body that are based on electricity and magnetism, rather than biochemistry. These systems often control the functioning of the biochemical sytems in the body. At the Rosetta Stone Institute, we refer to these systems as the body’s energetic physiology.
Robert Becker’s discovery of the difference between healing in a salamander, which leads to regeneration of lost organs or limbs, and the way frogs heal, which does not, was a tremendous breakthrough in humanity’s understanding of this energetic physiology. But many existing medical systems have been based on the use of energy to control human physiological processes. In fact, some of the oldest medical systems, such as acupuncture and ayurvedic medicine, developed largely on the basis of energy-related concepts.
In the past sixty or seventy years, Western scientists have deepened our understanding of key concepts about the role of energy in biological systems. We feel it is time to put these concepts to work in unprecedented ways.
In Cross Currents, Becker discusses the use of negative feedback loops as biological control mechanisms. He gives the example of a household heating system that is controlled by a thermostat. When the house is too cold, this simple low-power electrical system senses the temperature change and signals the relatively complex and high-powered heating system to turn on. As the household temperature increases, the thermostat gradually reduces the signal to the heating system, until the proper temperature has been reached. At that point, the thermostat turns off the electrical signal, which causes the heating system to shut itself off (Cross Currents, p. 31).
This “regulation of a powerful process by a signal of very low power” is exactly what seems to be happening with systems like acupuncture or homeopathy, which may even use currently undetectable inputs to control processes that produce large-scale results.
In the case of a salamander, simply reversing the polarity of an electrical field results in flawless regeneration, time after time. Just think what can happen to people as we start to put these concepts to greater use!
